Lonesome Shack | the PROPAGANDA site

Lonesome Shack is a blues trio led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Ben Todd, who though originally from Seattle, spent years in New Mexico living in the titular shack, soaking up old southern blues records in the bright desert sun. The end result is a mixture of styles with a stripped down sound that borrows a lot from hill country blues, but also remains partial to boogie and blues rock, with a touch of roots music thrown in there. The band expanded into a traditional folk sound with a faint indie layer on top in the '20s. Todd has quite a presence up front with a distinct voice and exciting guitar work, while bassist Luke Bergman guides the trio with a solid pulse and drummer Kristian Garrard keeps their sound dry and grounded.

Our #SongoftheDay is "Song of the Horse" by blues outfit Lonesome Shack, who straddle the line between a lively and fun take on an artsy folk sound and their usual classic blues base. It's a gem.
