The heavy garage psych universe formed around bands like Osees, early King Gizz, and Frankie & the Witch Fingers has seen some growth over the last decade. Still, I personally feel like there's plenty of room for more and we should certainly find some space for this Berlin quartet. Das riffz does rock. The occasional flute or tabla or saz add that extra zest of otherworldly to otherwise killer psych rock that does the album title and artwork and justice. Enjoy!

An album by Exit Chamber Released 2026-07-03 I'm once again back on my sleep-music BS thanks to a bout of early waking insomnia. I made these four deliberately slow, drifting meditative drones for myself but I think they are good enough to release to the wider world. I hope you enjoy them too. The album cover is an edit of a photograph I took about ten years ago on the bank of the River Ness during some heavy fog (haar in Scots). I've included the cassette J-cards in the bonus content just in case anyone wants to make their own tape.

An album by snwv Released 2026-06-18 Improvising microtonally can be a challenge. Interesting things begin to happen when pitches with higher-integer relationships are interacting, but this opens a risk of very dissonant intervals, or (when the intervals are very close to 12-tone equal temperament) just sounding out of tune. The pitches a little farther away from 12TET intervals, for which we don't yet have an emotional vocabulary for interpretation, give us an opportunity to create our own responses. This performance is largely consonant, with some sections flowing from that in-between realm. To me, the music is manifesting with an attitude of calm, supported by an inner resilience. The timbres resemble reed instruments and the flute family, with many of the note durations equivalent to a long breath. (There's a lot of breath here for something made with strings.) Spring is almost behind us. Summer awaits. The titles of these pieces are references to the visual art of Lynda Smith-Bügge. Thank you for listening!

An album by Benji Tunez Released 2026-06-18 A rather peaceful song for a not so peaceful story (cough cough arson). This was a song I felt I needed to cover for a while, and I'm glad I did! This is the resting place of the Legendary Prince Shōtoku, although knowing most of you, you probably guessed that already. It's less of a resting place now that they're back... so it's just there just for style points I guess.

Bill – South of River (1997)
A minimal, cinematic trip-hop piece from the late 90s, built on ambient textures and slow emotional drift. “South of River” feels like a quiet memory unfolding in real time — subtle, atmospheric, and deeply restrained.

Les Big Byrd: Ruin Everything
I think as long as the #recommNeds has been around, I've been pushing this Swedish band. I know I've been digging these guys for a while because the one time I saw them in a rare trip to the US was in a club that's long gone as part of a festival that hasn't existed for a decade. Over that time, their brand of Eurojam has zigged and zagged between the realm of the weird and more focused rock. This one is certainly in the latter, song-centric and driving motorik rhythms, part Beatles, part Neu! with lyrics in both English and their native tongue. Glad to still have these guys around. Enjoy!
