okay hmm. I've now been extensively dogfooding #TasksOrg plus #Davx5 plus #Baikal as a lightweight #CalDAV backend for a couple weeks as part of my relaunch of personal task management, and I'm starting to think this would be a great subject for a video on the Surfhosting Peertube channel.

I need to use it for a few more weeks though, because I'm still discovering things about the software and letting my usage patterns evolve.

one cool thing that I think will make this useful is that I'm using Tasks.org (which is an Android app, despite the name) in at least three ways simultaneously: for tasks which repeat every single day, for a to-do list for the current day and upcoming days, and for a to-do list for various task domains which stretch up to several months into the future.

I think this will make for a great video on how to use this admittedly complicated but very powerful #selfhosted task management system.

and there it is. 11-month blocker defeated.

thinking ahead to my next phone running @GrapheneOS - anybody got opinions on Pixel 6a vs Pixel 7 (those exact models)?

I'm looking for a phone that will last for years, where I can replace the battery without too high a risk of breaking the device. I'm currently satisfied with the horsepower of a Poco F1 with Snapdragon 845 and 6GB RAM.

I'm really leery of the lack of microSD, but I want to try #GrapheneOS as a daily driver, so. #surfhosting

but thankfully there are parts of my #surfhosting tech stack which are fairly settled already:

OS: #LinuxMint; #Debian (with #LXQt if needed, or #BunsenLabs); #OpenWRT

Virtualization: #Proxmox

Hardware: refurb "1-liter" #1LPC business #miniPC from HP, Dell, Lenovo, with mid to high end CPU

Network: #GLiNet and #FriendlyElec #NanoPi routers / network-attached devices; #PiVPN

Phone: #VoipMS with dedicated SIP phone, plus softphone apps for limited use

Power: 90% of everything powered from compact #GaN USB-PD power supplies; 24/7 gear backed by ~15 year old consumer UPSes with drop-in LFP 12V batteries

after a number of rounds thru the spin cycle, I finally figured out what's the least-worst way to enable Tailscale nodes on the LAN side to connect to other Tailscale nodes on the WAN side uplink network (as opposed to on the entire internet) with an OpenWRT router sitting in between them.

this is important in my case because I have multiple LANs for various purposes (e.g. "personal" vs "work" services), and if this isn't set up, some of the Tailscale traffic will be routed via a distant relay on the internet rather than staying within my physical location.

anyway, the solution in OpenWRT Luci is Network > Firewall > Traffic Rules, and add a rule as pictured.

it's a good idea to specify your WAN network in the Destination Address field if you only want direct UDP connections to port 41641 to be forwarded to WAN (as opposed to the entire Internet) ... this can be useful if you use an always-on VPN like I do, and don't want to open a leak of Tailscale traffic to the wider internet, which would happen if you leave Destination Address unset.

Today is a #research and #learning day as well as setting up more utilities I may need in the future.

Doing all the stuff in the background that I will actually need or will make my life easier in the future. The silent stuff that isn't spectacular.

I need a rest quite frankly.

I think I learned more in like two weeks at 31 than I did in all of high school, and did a lot of work.

I guess I do get days off, I just have to choose.

I am attempting to make a short #video about an #adventure I went on in #losangeles today. Longer than the #shorts I have been posting, but not a giant video essay.

I need a pack of quality #royaltyfree #music or a source where it's available openly, and for free.

I am watching tons of #tutorials on #editing and attempting some #narration too.

MY BRAIN IS EXPLODING YET STILL HUNGRY.

I NEED SOME #help AND #fedihelp is the best.

Thanks bunches of oats! O.o

https://mastodon.pirateparty.be/@surfhosting This is a profile that stumbled across me that is attempting to make a concentrated source of information for people who #livestream and make #content in a nomadic way, and don't have a lot of tech at their disposal.

I found it to be very useful since I am a complete novice to modern #socialmedia after disappearing from the Internet for half a decade or so. Also for making content.
