The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is misnamed. It is the federal governmen's way to speculate in oil. Buy cheap, then sell in times of trouble when prices are high.
The average price of crude in the #SPR (latest published) is $29.70.
@LeakLiv The Stretgic Petroleum Reserve #SPR is a military asset. It is also a huge speculative venture made possible by taxpayer-funded undergound storage.
When the government says "draw down" that means selling at the current high price crude which was purchased when the price of oil was low--$30/bbl on average.
