Der wirtschaftspolitische Sprecher der SPD-Bundestagsfraktion, Sebastian Roloff, hat angesichts der hohen Spritpreise auf die Einführung einer sogenannten "Übergewinnsteuer" gepocht und eine Direktzahlung als Entlastung etwa für Geringverdiener gefordert. "Die Einführung einer Übergewinnsteuer ist aus meiner Sicht zwingend", sagte Roloff der "Rheinischen Post" (Donnerstagausgabe).

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is misnamed. It is the federal governmen's way to speculate in oil. Buy cheap, then sell in times of trouble when prices are high.

The average price of crude in the #SPR (latest published) is $29.70.

When the government says "draw down" that means selling at the current high price crude which was purchased when the price of oil was low--$30/bbl on average.
