For my shop machine, I'm now actively testing Debian 14 Testing w/ Xlibre and SonicDE. So far, so good. I use this machine for client work and it also gets to be my guinea pig for testing drawing tablet workflows. Both native Xlibre (via wacom) and Gaomon's proprietary driver work. I'm impressed with how snappy SonicDE is - first time using it today. Great work folks‼️

@q66 nothing gives me more confidence than a project from some thin skinned AI Bro who tries to gaslight the world on topic of an invalid config issue 🤣 #sonicde #ai #fail

We forked the #KDE Plasma Login Manager. It now runs on #X11, drops privileges after init, and supports #systemd-free too. We tested it on Artix Linux with OpenRC, CachyOS with systemd, and on the #FreeBSD-based GhostBSD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTnV7-nfgX4 https://github.com/Sonic-DE/sonic-login-manager

We consolidated the #SonicDE for #ArchLinux packages and created a standalone repository at https://sonicde-arch.github.io. There, we provide binary packages for x86_64 and maintain the PKGBUILDs for the #AUR. Please update any existing custom SonicDE entries in your pacman.conf.
Did a test install of Vendefoul Wolf Excalibur with Sonic DE to mess around with.

Got a pop up notification that updates were available, I think from the Discover app or similar (as Sonic DE is a fork of KDE).

I clicked the notification, applied the updates and rebooted when prompted.

Rebooted to just a blinking cursor after the initial Linux grub screen. Broken system.

It may have been the Discover app problem.

I'd like to try all the Vendefoul Wolf desktop options, but first try of Sonic DE didn't last long!

The maintainers of #Vendefoul Wolf Linux added #SonicDE 6.3.5 packages to their stable release based on #Devuan 6 Excalibur. They also announced to stop releasing any ISOs with #KDE Plasma and solely focus on SonicDE. The maintainers of @openmandriva have created initial packages for #SonicDE and are now calling for testers. You're welcome to read the instructions and leave feedback at https://forum.openmandriva.org/t/sonicde-call-for-testing/8822.
SonicDE call for testing

Thanks to the SonicDE team we are now able to start preliminary testing of their X11 only fork of Plasma. Please be advised of the following caveats: The sonic-* packages make use of a mix of KDE and SonicDE dependencies at this time. The SonicDE dependencies have not had an asset rename, yet. As a result, you cannot have both plasma and sonic packages installed at the same time. There are conflicts baked into the packages that will not allow it. Testing does not mean “production ready” and y...

I have managed to restore the #KDE #Plasma #X11 session on #AlmaLinux 10.1.

I have built some of the @sonicdesktop packages for #EL10 and made them run on @XLibreDev.

Instructions can be found on my #COPR repo here: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/andersrh/sonicDE/

This is not a full build of #SonicDE, but an initial alpha release, which restores the X11 session on an #Wayland only distro. More packages will be released later to create a full SonicDE environment as well as newer versions in order to include the newest enhancements for X11.

Rumor already has it, and it's true. We’re currently working on removing #Wayland support from #SonicDE and the underlying forked libraries. This will pave the way for us to focus on preserving and improving our #X11 version of #KDE #Plasma 6.
