Not strictly wildlife, but these few of the lovely free-flying birds at the Bird of Prey Project, near #Bath #Somerset #UK, where I went yesterday. They also do a lot of great conservation work and awareness-raising about wild birds of prey and owls.

✨ Happy St Elfleda’s Day! ✨

(The alternative date is 14th April.)

Did you know? Two miracles are associated with this 10th-century saint: 1️⃣ When a king visited Elfleda and she had no drinks for his men, she prayed—and turned water into mead so everyone could have a drink! 2️⃣ Want to know her second miracle? Check out “Unsung Women in Somerset” or “On This Day in Somerset” for the full story.

An October afternoon at the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare in the county of Somerset, South West England.
This is one of those beaches where the tide doesn't just go out, it does a disappearing act!
It is situated by the Bristol Channel, which has the second largest tidal range in the world.
The low tide mark in Weston Bay can be more than a mile out from the seafront shelter where I took this photograph.
Although the immediate foreshore is sandy, further out the sand gives way to thick mud and quicksand which is dangerous to walk upon.
In the early 19th century, Weston was just a small hamlet of no more than 30 houses, but that all changed with the construction of the Bristol and Exeter Railway.
After completion in 1841, the location expanded into a town, benefitting from the thousands of visitors who came from Bristol, the Midlands and much further afield.
The seaside resort was a popular destination for works outings and bank holidays.
