This is a Stygian Owl, dressed up and surrounded by an Art Nouveau-esque filigree frame. It was suggested that I do a "Vampire Owl" by a friend who popped into my street fair booth during Friday Night Markets this last summer.

His name was Devon, and he was a fisherman, hired to help with the catch on a local fishing boat. But when I met him he was looking for a new job, either as a bar back or (someday) as a tattoo artist. He was impressed with my Ravens at first, suggesting I do one in purple. I did. And when he saw it, he felt I'd made a great version of a specific species of owl for Halloween. He said their eyes glowed red in the dark.

What I found was a Stygian Owl, from Central and South America. They're known for their ear tufts looking like horns, and their eyes do indeed glow red when light is reflected in them.

So I drew this, and sold a couple for Halloween. His suggestion was a good one.
