@karakteristika It’s a good question about soil blocks. The ingredients and moisture can be varied to get more robust soil blocks. #SoilBlock, #gardening, #allotment, #compost

About soil blocking. Advertisement images show only nice clean soil blocks. In reality, those who soil block, how long you are able to keep the soil blocks close to original form? I have made these micro sized soil blocks for couple of years now and eventually transferred seedlings to pots. Even these micro sized soil blocks tend to spread in width (maybe I water in wrong way). Now I am trying larger soil blocks, but wonder if I am able to transfer plants directly soil as in these latitudes it might take two more months still.

Today was a productive day. I sowed three different types of tomatoes in soil block cubes. I also transplanted the sweet pepper seedlings, which had sprouted in the soil blocks and waited there for too long the transplantation into larger growing pots.

Unfortunately, I also had to deal with an aphid infestation on my couple month old jalapeño and chili seedlings, and I really hope the treatment was effective.

I will soon run out of desktop space and it is still too cold to put the seedlings into a balcony.

🚨 WE HAVE GERMINATION 🚨 I REPEAT 🚨 WE HAVE GERMINATION

@nerdhof #Germination is a fun time when it’s cold and white outside. Gardeners can wonder what to do if the seeds in every #SoilBlock grow, or what to do if the peppers are prolific. We use #Fermentation of mixed hot pepper mash when we have a good year. Sometimes the harvest is small when the cutworms and rabbits take their share and then some.
