@ChrisIstace I'm a dork, but this is something fun/unique about mastodon that I really like.

Custom emojis on a server. In honour of Justin McElroy's famous ‘brackets’, I made custom emojis for #socialBC from every flag from every local government and first nation that I could find.

like:  #ladysmith

or  #northcowich or  #cvrd

Just start with a colon : then the name and end with a colon :

I usually pair it with the hashtag.

Just to be super clear/reiterate. I'm just chronically my own fun with my own personal instance at mstdn.chrisalemany.

#SocialBC is completely independent and not part of any of what I'm working on here in this thread.

I like doing this stuff though, and I like chronically as I go, and I really appreciate the encouragement and help from people here.

Mastodon is a great place :)

the good news is, I believe I've confirmed that redis and postgresql *are* the major culprits behind the disk performance issues on my #selfhost #footiMac @chris instance

(to be clear, this is not connected to or impacting #socialBC)

The bad news is that it will take all night probably for it to finish what it's doing anyway, which is running apt for a long needed update.

So it's going to be morning before that account returns, but at least now I have a path forward!
