Namibia con’t -

#namibia isn’t all sand. The country borders the ocean. The #skeletoncoast - known for shipwrecks due to the rough seas - and a thriving salt production industry (they joking call the salt mountains, “the Namibian Everest of Salt”) are both ocean side sights. And they also have an area where you can kayak with #seals

Etosha Pan to the Skeleton Coast: Conservation Histories, Policies and Practices in North-west Namibia

Etosha Pan to the Skeleton Coast examines the conservation histories and concerns of one of southern Africa’s most iconic conservation regions: the variously connected ‘Etosha-Kunene’ areas of north-central and north-west Namibia. This cross-disciplinary volume brings together contributions from a Namibian and international group of scholars and conservation practitioners, working on topics ranging from colonial histories to water management, perceptions of ‘wildlife’ and the politics of belonging. Together, these essays confront a critical question: how can the conservation of biodiversity-rich landscapes be reconciled with historical injustices of social exclusion and marginalisation?

For some people, the vast emptyness of the inland on the Skeleton Coast is depressing. For me, it's more of a peaceful retreat.

Some more of the shipwrecks the Skeleton Coast is famous for. Just imagine crashing your ship at the coast just to find out that now you're stuck in a desert...

The colony at Cape Cross is one of the largest colonies of cape fur seals in the world. During their main seasons, you can find 200,000 to 250,000 seals living on the beaches of the Cape Cross peninsula.

Going back down to the coast of the South Atlantic, we are now hitting the main part of the Skeleton Coast. This is the wreck of the fishing trawler "Zeila." The youngest wreck on the coast.

Here are two photos in different styles:
- Visible waves and high contrast to show off the drama.
- Long exposure and low contrast to show the desolation.
