RE: https://urusai.social/@zeromind/115672799374113220

After winning Us over from Mozilla's Firefox, which up until then We've used for almost two decades, a couple months ago, in just one move the Floorp Browser completely turned Us off of it by pushing the "AI" nonsense that We were trying to escape in the first place. Needless to say, We'll be moving away from it soon.

We don't know yet which browser We'll be using in the meantime, but We're excited for when the @servo project will approach a mature state, not only with it having a no "AI" policy ( https://book.servo.org/contributing/getting-started#ai-contributions ), but it also overall being a project that neither supports Google's dominance of web technology nor depends on Mozilla's rapidly enshittifying base.

On top of that, it's a fully community owned project that's already come far, so it's not subject to the same forces that cause Google and Mozilla to burn what they have.

If the creature friendly future of the web is important to you, consider supporting them through a donation, word of mouth, or getting involved. (Only if you can afford to, of course.)

Now excuse Us while We move into the increasingly empty room of webbrowsers that don't contribute to the destruction of the web.

@loop0 all that's is left is wait for #ladybirdBrowser or #servoEngine to be usable

@davidrevoy it might take some patience, but the @servo project is working on building what's needed, to develop a browser based on #ServoEngine:

Building a browser using Servo as a web engine! - Servo aims to empower developers with a lightweight, high-performance alternative for embedding web technologies in applications.

Let's build another web browser based on Servo!

Servo

Just spent another five hours fixing up a new feature I'm hoping the maintainers of #Servo will accept into their project.

https://github.com/servo/servo/issues/32166

The original prototype code was finished within twenty minutes of fetching the Servo codebase for the very first time, and all of the hours since then have been spent fixing edge case bugs and making sure the unit tests work. Always amazes me how strong the Pareto Principle is when it comes to software development.

It makes me really happy to see, @igalia is working on reviving the @Servo engine project and has now 4 people working on it.

If they manage to revitalize it, get more contributors on board etc. this has the potential to provide a viable alternative in the currently #Chrome / #Blink / #WebKit dominated browser ecosystem and allow for new developments in this space!
