The Ladybird browser project has banned all public pull requests. The team announced that generative AI has destroyed open-source trust heuristics, making it too easy to disguise vulnerabilities. Only internal maintainers can push code moving forward. #LadybirdBrowser #OpenSource #CyberSecurity #GitHub #TechNews

Ladybird browser bans public code patches as AI bots destroy open-source trust

The fundamental trust model of open-source software development is buckling under the weight of generative AI. On Friday, the independent Ladybird browser project officially locked down its codebase. The development team announced a complete ban on all public pull requests, restricting future code contributions exclusively to its internal project maintainers. All currently open public pull

Komiliere den Ladybird Browser. Weil eine Engine-Vielfalt wichtig ist. Weil wir nur noch KHTML und Chrome haben. Weil Firefox komplett vom Geld Googles abhängig ist.

I got distracted on the #ladybirdbrowser site.

The fact that they had to add other user agent strings to theirs just to see the right versions of websites highlights why User-Agent sniffing is just a crappy, sloppy way to build a website.

You shouldn't see a "Your browser is not supported" message, or worse, an error code. Add enhancements where the browser supports them, but show something useful to all users...

GG; really was excited for the ladybird browser, but now it relies heavily on AI to rewrite its code from C++ to Rust. They even rewrote their entire JS stack just using AI into rust, using "only" hundrets of prompts to get Claude to do the porting for them.

Can this AI slop bubble please burst already?

🚨BREAKING: Ladybird Browser, that Titanic of the tech world, is now jumping ship from C to Rust with AI's help! 😱 Apparently, they couldn't quite Swift-ly leave Apple behind. But no worries, because Rust is the knight in shining armor that everyone pretends to understand! 🦄
