*Once those "AI Potennas" get done, the rest of that space-engineering is trivial by SpaceX standards, although we might have to fire those "scientific instruments" for being too woke #Grok #AI #scientificvisualization

Years of making molecular visualizations taught me a hard truth: the prettiest images are often the least accurate. Vibrant rainbows, distorted scales, over‑simplified structures, or non‑color‑blind‑friendly palettes can mislead. I now put function first, then form—clarity over flash. What visualization pitfalls have you run into? 🎨🔬

🧵 Fun little story: I had to lead a workshop (1 h 45 min) about my thesis topic last Wednesday.

The topic was "Facilitating historical empathy in Archaeology through scientific visualization". Since the workshop was pretty short, I ended up coming up with the following idea. (…)

Did an IG takeover of ZHdK‘s Knowledge Visualization account a few days ago where I got to introduce the topic of my MA thesis, historical empathy in archaeological visualization.

I couldn‘t properly export the story, but here‘s a screen recording of the „slides“ for anyone who‘s interested.

Warming stripes (Climatology 🌍)

Warming stripes are data visualization graphics that use a series of coloured stripes chronologically ordered to visually portray long-term temperature trends. Warming stripes reflect a "minimalist" style, conceived to use colour alone to avoid technical distractions to intuitively convey global warm...

MA-Thesis Research: A question to archeologists, anthropologists and historians on here.

When creating reconstructions (illustrations, animations, …), do you consider it important to evoke a sense of empathy towards people depicted in the visualization? Meaning: Do you think it's important that the emotional background / landscape of a scene should also be reflected (or taken into account) in the visualization?
