Here’s media coverage from today’s great #SchoolStrike4Climate.

It’s fantastic to see the young people of the city keeping the pressure on our politicians. We need to keep turning up the heat on our politicians to cool down our planet.

(I should add that my daughter was one of the organisers and I’m a proud Dad today. 😀)

The Press

My 7yo has announced his intention to join the #schoolstrike4climate next Friday. I asked him what he wanted to put on his protest sign, thinking it would be something cute about saving bumblebees but he suggested "Don't trust oil companies."

If you’re near central Ōtautahi-Christchurch, today is the latest #SchoolStrike4Climate. My daughter’s one of the students working hard to plan the event. They want pressure on the Christchurch City Council and the NZ government to step up in this time of crisis.

It starts at the Bridge of Remembrance 1PM. Everyone is welcome incl. adults. Make noise, have fun, and show solidarity with our rangatahi freaked out by NZ’s lack of climate leadership.

Greta just keeps getting more and more awesome.

@gretathunberg you've been an inspiration to me since you first started your #SchoolStrike4Climate. Never stop. We young people can change the world for the better. A better world is possible.

So the turn-out at Melbourne's #SchoolStrike4Climate was rather poor. The last march I went to (pre-COVID) packed out the Treasury Gardens and half of Collins St. It would seem the ALP have done a great job at killing #ClimateCrisis and #MassExtinction as a mainstream issue. #auspol

Felt quite dispirited after the march. I spoke to a colleague who attended a Climate tipping-point workshop this week. His response was ‘policy obsession with emissions reduction that will fail. We are all living in denial. Get read for geoengineering and 6 degrees of warming.’

“– I hope you know that the day the Australian government stops burning my future is the day I’ll stop protesting.“

I used to believe I had no real say in what our government did. But eventually I realised that that simply wasn’t true

Take a sick day for the planet.

Student climate strikes first began in Australia in 2018, with a group of Castlemaine students protesting outside their local MP’s office. Greta Thunberg’s Friday protests soon sparked a worldwide movement. Hundreds of Australian students went on strike in 2018; the ‘#SchoolStrike4Climate was launched & 300,000 people from more than 100 cities and towns across Australia participated in the 2019 climate strikes.
