Learn about the two #carbonMitigation projects for the in-person #PSA2022 conference here: https://sites.google.com/site/andersenphilosophy/home/carbon-mitigation-for-psa-2022?authuser=0

These two projects (and their hybrid conference in 2021) show that the PSA can afford to correct the other ethical problems of their in-person #conferencesβ€”e.g., by streaming sessions to people who cannot attend due to money, immigration, childcare, physical ability, neurodiversity, health, weather, etc.

#PSA2022 was awesome. Maybe the best one ever? So grateful to see everyone, learn from your wonderful talks, share ideas in respectful and constructive Q&As, and reconnect. See you in New Orleans in 2024!
I had an awesome time at #PSA2022 in #Pittsburgh . Very grateful to the speakers, attendees, program committee, and the terrific governance of the #Philosophy of Science Association! #philsci #philosophyofscience
#psa2022 is over, and I’ve stumbled into #philinbiomed2022
#PSA2022 Such a great Philosophy of Science Association meeting!! Thanks to Holly Andersen and everyone else who made this happen under difficult circumstances (one year turnaround, new ED, etc., etc.). It was wonderful to see so many friends after what felt like many years. Every session I went to was high quality and rooms were full. I didn't get to see all the people who I wanted to see, but paradoxically, that's how I know it was a good PSA. πŸŒ±πŸ”¬βš›πŸ©Ί

Final #PSA2022 post from me:

Dr. Haixin Dang argued that the dissent from minority reports from science can be crucial.

Dang also pre-empted objections about bad faith political mis-use of scientific dissent or lack of consensus.

Two take-aways from the "Multiplicity, Data-Dredging, and Error Control" (closing) session at the #PSA2022:

1. "Questionable research practices" (e.g., optional stopping, file drawers, data dredging, etc.) are not *categorically* bad. They can be (and have been) used for good (e.g., Darwin, Mendeleev): https://psa2022.dryfta.com/program-schedule/program/132/multiplicity-data-dredging-and-error-control

2. Some "best practices" are either unfounded or arbitrary.

A noteworthy #poster at the #PSA2022 was Ashley Walton, Adina Roskies, and colleagues' "Mapping the dimensions of agency and the impacts of neuropsychiatric symptoms".

Two standout advantages:

1. Lots of data visualization to quickly convey lots of information (unlike walls of prose, generic clipart, etc.).

2. A corresponding webpage that is mobile-friendly (unlike PDF) and citable! https://sites.dartmouth.edu/ashley-walton/brainposter2022/

A highlight of today's #PSA2022 was Ina JΓ€ntgen's "How to measure effect sizes for rational decision-making"

"absolute measures [of effect sizes] are at least as good as, if not better than, relative ones for informing rational decisions... Specifically, ...for choices between a treatment and a control group treatment from a trial and for ones between treatments tested in different trials."
