It is thus ironic that the requirement to renew #postalvotes every three years was brought in by a #conservative government while #reformUK has been parroting the arguments used in the #us by #maga against #postalvoting - called #earlyvoting there. Years back I used to find myself fighting against #autosuppression of the #labourvote due to misconceived approaches to voter contact. It is really something to find now that the #conservatives may have achieved #autosuppression by legislation !
It is likely to affect the pattern of voter turnout in future elections. Older people are more likely have #postalvotes and may actually experience difficulty voting in person - as well as with the additional form filling now required to continue to vote by post. This may well mean that their turnout may fall relative to younger cohorts of voters. This in turn may strengthen the position of parties that appeal to a younger demographic - not good news for the #conservatives and #reformUK !
In recent years the law has changed so that #postalvotes have to be renewed every three years - and the process is slightly more laborious than the original application would have been. It may be that the experience of #wandsworth is unique. If not it may mean that the long term trend of a rising share of #postalvoters has reversed. This may have rather a lot of consequences.

For all the Americans out there, the UK has postal votes, so that's at least one country apart from yourselves, and I'm sure there are others.
