#Parafascist prime minister #IoannisMetaxas was in power less than a month when, on #ThisDayInHistory in 1936 he unleashed troops on a workers' demonstration against #PoliceBrutality. The #ThessalonikiMassacre took 12 lives & wounded more. #Metaxas later created a dictatorship.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1937, the #Nazi #CondorLegion, working for #Franco's #parafascist faction in the #SpanishCivilWar, bombed & destroyed the #Basque town #Gernika/#Guernica. Stuka dive-bombers nearly erased it in a horrific assault meant to test German preparedness for war.

Nine members of the #Pallarès Action Group, part of the #JuventudesLibertarias (Anarchist Youth), were executed (garroted) by the #FranciscoFranco régime in 1943 on #ThisDayInHistory. Juventudes Libertarias were among the #leftist groups that opposed #Spain's #parafascist state.

On #ThisDayInHistory, #CNT, an #AnarchoSyndicalist #union, was founded in Barcelona, #Catalonia. Its opposition to #WageSlavery and #capitalism has survived over a century, including repression under Franco's #ParaFascist dictatorship. Through #ICL it is a sister-union to #IWW.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1915, the US invaded #Haiti, claiming "the African race are devoid of any capacity for political organization". Its soldiers killed thousands (posing with the corpses), dissolved parliament, and instaled a #parafascist dictatorship that lasted 19 years.
