Pirmasis telefonu su webOS operacine sistema, kuri buvo gerokai pralenkusi savo laiką. Šį modelį yra būtina prisiminti, norint suprasti, iš kur atsirado šiuolaikinis valdymas gestais ir belaidis krovimas, be Palm Pre šiandieninis iPhone, Samsung ar kitas išmanusis telefonas atrodytų visai kitaip.

3,1 colio TFT jutiklinis ekranas, TI OMAP 3430 procesorius, 256 MB RAM, 8 GB vidinės atminties (be plėtros), 3,2 MP kamera su LED blykste (be video), webOS 1.0, CDMA/GSM su HSPA, Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, A-GPS, qwerty klaviatūra, belaidis krovimas, 1150 mAh Li-Ion baterija (iki 5 val. pokalbių, 300 val. budėjimo), dydis 100,5 x 59,6 x 16,9 mm, svoris 135 g.

Deja, techninė įranga neatitiko programinės genialumo - telefonas jautėsi pigus, plastikas greitai skilinėjo, o klaviatūra buvo nepatogi. Palm, vėliau nupirkta HP, nesugebėjo pritraukti kūrėjų ir nuostabusis webOS atsidūrė... LG televizoriuose.

Doing some software archaeology with @jimmac today, looking at webOS on the Touchpad and Palm Pre.

It's very cool to see how far ahead of its time this was, and also how many elements from it survived in GNOME in some form! And of course, the multitasking is still unmatched by any more recent mobile platform :)
