Still annoyed that hp ruined webOS and Palm. Annoyed AF right now.

Sad day when I gave up coding for it and sold the lot. I went all in on this ecosystem and had fun with it. Very different than today’s big two. Sailfish and the Linux distros like Droidian have a long way to go to catch up.

@Kancept no Linux distro to run on there? Seems a shame, decent hardware
@Cali @Kancept lol, WebOS was (or is... But not for Smartphones or Tablets anymore) a Linux Distro... Maaaan i miss it.
@scops @Cali yeah, it’s a process to update all the expired certs and such and such an old kernel anymore. Heck, the Veer was a single core 800mhz phone. Iirc you could overclock it to 1.1 ghz with Govnah.
@Kancept @Cali my device was a original pre. i sadly missed the chance to get a Pre 3 in the small sale window back in the days...
The real problem with this old devices is the modern web with all it's features. for something like frogfind (with its proxy feature) it's all fine - after updating certs to get the mail client working for example. i still use a Nokia N9 from time to time. x)
@scops @Cali that and disappearing networks. Iirc the original Pre and the Pixi weren’t 4G so won’t work on any cell networks now. The Pre 2, Veer, and Pre 3 I think still will.

@Kancept sad to say, i never got a chance at using the Palm WebOS. Wonder if anyone would ever pick it up to revive it.

That said, i miss the simplicity, the somewhat clunkyness of the first versions of Android even.

@polishdub LG runs their updated version on TVs. It’s not phone-centric anymore.
@Kancept. @Ronnie I feel like Palm ruined Palm, and HP just put a shiny fresh coat of paint on it and failed to fix the structural problems.

@tewha @Ronnie Leo did them dirty. Like what company cancels a product the very week it hits the shelves then points at it and cries that it’s not selling.

Sure Palm had its issues, but hp didn’t do a damn thing to help. I think they would have lasted a touch longer without hp jumping in.

@Kancept @Ronnie I think Palm’s biggest mistake was spinning wheels for a couple years trying to come up with a way to split themselves in two when there really wasn’t a demand for it except from someone who was probably in bed with their competitors.
@tewha @Ronnie yeah, the split was odd at the time and seemed like the point /was/ to get sold off.
@Kancept @Ronnie By the time they were split in two, even their other half didn’t want their technology anymore.
@Kancept @lauteshirn … and HP-UX and Tru64 UNIX and nearly also VMS.
@dentaku @lauteshirn it's like there's a pattern...
