01-04-2026 - #Olympia - No War on Venezuela!
No war crimes in our name!
About 200 people showed at the Capitol on Sunday to #protest Trump invading #Venezuela and capturing Nicolás Maduro.
BACKGROUND: In 2012 #Maduro was appointed as Vice President of Venezuela by Hugo Chávez. Maduro assumed presidency after the death of Chávez in 2013. Maduro became widely unpopular from authoritarian rule and numerous disputed elections. In 2020 the U.S. offered up to $15 million for information leading to Maduro's arrest. In January of 2025 this was increased to $25 million, then again to $50 million in August of 2025. In November 2025 Trump designated Maduro as a member of a terrorist organization.
While Maduro may be invalid and unpopular, Trump's decision to capture Nicolás in #Caracas on January 3rd has been criticized worldwide. Trump's statements after capture indicate the U.S. will "run" Venezuela "until such time as a proper transition can take place". Trump indicated U.S. companies will increase oil production and begin selling oil: "We're going to have our very large U.S. oil companies, the biggest anywhere in the world, go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure, the oil infrastructure, and start making money for the country" - "We’re in the oil business"
