The sheer detail of the intelligence gathering that occurred leading up to the strike is mind boggling. Info coming out now shows this spy was in the innermost of circles because there are detailed accounts of what Maduro was eating, which people and pets were around, and when he would take calls or use the bathroom.
I posted on the bad place that kidnapping/arresting the leader of a foreign government is illegal.
Someone has asked me "as a legal nerd, why don't we have authority to arrest people in other countries?"
And... just... what a wild question. I'm so frustrated by the framing and the ridiculousness of it. It's the wrong question. We should be asking: who gives us the authority to arrest people in another sovereign nation?
I mean... tell me if I'm wrong. But this is a violation of international law and the sovereignty of Venezuela, right?
And it's a violation of US law as most presidents have said they don't have the authority to act without congressional approval.
