White racist town leadership are taken off guard that a black resident in a primarily black community in Alabama files to run for mayor and wins that they try to hold a special election and ice him out of the job which had historically been a hereditary hand-me-down since the days when these folks’ white ancestors incorrectly thought they could own black people. It reads like many of the town’s black residents were unaware that people could actually campaign to be mayor. That’s how long these white nepo babies thwarted democracy and representative politics.
