While upgrading to a #Wifi7 #router and #multigig #LAN #networking, it's been a shock to me that wifi7 has a higher data rate than 2.5G #Ethernet!!

Mainly due to wider channels, but also because of #MLO #MultiLinkOperation, which can use 6Ghz and 5Ghz simultaneously!

I wonder if the 2.5G wired #backhaul on the #TPLink #mesh router I've got coming in the mail actually helps much if the nodes have good #signal or if I should have spring for one with 10G backhaul.

But if I'm splashing out on #2.5G Ethernet dongles and PCEe cards, then I'd ought to have proper #MultiGig switches like these https://amazon.com/dp/B08ZHZL5Q7

So, in summary, here are my findings if you want to upgrade your home networking to #multigig #ethernet:

- Buy 10/5/2.5 Gbps switches for best performance and compatibility. Itโ€™s worth the extra price.
- Donโ€™t bother with 2.5 Gbps switches unless youโ€™re constrained by budget or space.
- Buy 10/5/2.5 Thunderbolt3 or PCI endpoints.
- Donโ€™t bother buying USB 3.1 dongles over 1 Gbps.

But not all #multigig #ethernet devices are created equal!

The best option for SWITCHES appear to be 10/5/2.5 Gbps ones, that give you 10 Gbps bandwidth between local devices that support them, and 5 Gbps between switches over #cat5e. Iโ€™ve had a really good experience with the TRENDnet TEG-S750. https://www.trendnet.com/products/10g-switch/5-port-10g-switch-TEG-S750-v1

You can get 2.5 Gbps switches too, but they appear to have much lower *internal* bandwidth. Plus, if you have existing computers with 10 Gbps, the 10 gig option is best.

I love the new batch of #multigig #ethernet peripherals that allow you to run 2.5 Gbps and 5 Gbps over your existing #cat5e cabling.

#Comcastโ€™s modem supports 2.5 Gbps, and I can now tap into the full 1.4 Gbps download capacity over wired Ethernet.
