Man, this article took me down memory lane lol. My networking days started with #10Base2, T-connectors, #ISA NICs, #tokenring topologies, and #Novell's IPX/SPX! #Thicknet was already old tech when I got into it in the mid to late 1980's. But I did learn about it at my local library! I wasn't even 10 yet!
Can you even imagine what a #terabit looks like? My past self wouldn't have even thought that was possible in his lifetime lol.

Exactly fifty years ago, the first concept of the computer networks we know today as Ethernet was designed. It has evolved from a thick coaxial cable connecting computers in a single location to the most common way of connecting networks of all sizes via twisted pair and optical fibre.
ESP32-S31 development boards unveiled for IoT, Smart Audio, and HMI applications
Two ESP32-S31 development boards are currently in the works, and the documentation is already available. The ESP32-S31 was unveiled last March, and it's the most feature-rich ESP32 wireless microcontroller so far with two RISC-V cores, Gigabit Ethernet, 2.4 GHz WiFi 6, Bluetooth, and 802.15.4 connectivity, LCD and camera interfaces, and more. The ESP32-S31-Function-CoreBoard-1 development board is based on the ESP32-S31-WROOM-3 wireless module, and offers Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0 OTG, and onboard audio peripherals for connected IoT applications. The ESP32-S31-Korvo-1 is a multimedia-focused development board based on the same ESP32-S31-WROOM-3 module, but featuring a dual-microphone array for speech recognition and near/far-field wake-up, two speaker connectors, a 4.3-inch LCD, a 3MP camera module, and a microSD card slot. It targets low-cost, low-power, connected audio/video and HMI applications. I've a little mantra at work: the lower the frequency, the more trouble it is. GPIO (DC) wiring is notoriously tricky to get right. 10Gbps #Ethernet? Just works.
Except, Reader, today, 10G Ethernet did NOT "just work".
Some cursed combination of fibre faults, picky equipment and bad luck has meant for a deeply frustrating afternoon of not fixing something.
Sigh.
This same paper confirms a suspicion as to why the Ethernet that we know and love is referred to as Etherne-2.
Ethernet-1, now often called research Ethernet, ran at 3 Mbps.
Ethernet-2, often stylized as Ethernet-II, ran at 10 Mbps.
Hence why we see Ethernet II in places like Wireshark.
