@tauon @orangelantern last time I've seen any tool like that was in #MSDOS.
This sketch also runs on #DOjS, my #p5js compatible #CreativeCoding platform for #MSDOS.
Only change is that I needed to remove the SVG rendering as that is not supported.
I will make the source available later.

The original VGA card used 8-bit indexed color modes to generate 256 color graphics. This is completely not useful for cross fading images. If you are interested in how you can still achieve this, check out my latest #letscode #msdos video:

"Colin McRae Rally" (Codemasters, 1998) might be what comes to mind when you think about 90s PC rally games, but in my mind it's "Network Q RAC Rally Championship" (Magnetic Fields, 1996).
Despite the cumbersome name, it's a good game. Not as realistic as other games that followed, but maybe that's why it stuck in my memory.
I tend to favour its arcade modes, as I'm not very fond of choosing tyres, engine options, etc.

Alice in the Park β Dry Grass All Around and a New Forest
Alice walked along a path. She chose a way. And now she's following the trail. Yellow autumn leaves all around. And a bunch of half-withered autumn plants. Such yellow grass. Already dry.

New video: Let's Code MS DOS 0x44: VGA Blending
The VGA card can display up to 256 colors on the screen at the same time, using an indexed 8 bit color mode. This is not much, but it allows us to fade two 16 color images into each other. This looks pretty nifty!
