Developing #retrogames for the #ibmpc of the early 1980s running #msdos and featuring #cga graphics. Turn-based strategy, puzzle and RPG! Fun in all four colours. With a fondness for Sinclair #zxspectrum and #psion handhelds too.

Crystal Nodes, as in the desert, are where resources are found. If you see one poking out of the snow, you will need to build a Mining Station on top of it to begin harvesting the resources. In some battles, there are Mining Stations already built here. #barrenplanet #ibmpc #msdos #cga
The IBM PC is 44 years old today. Here's an interesting article in PCGamesN about the early days of the PC, some of the decisions made, and how it compares to other computers then and now. https://www.pcgamesn.com/pc-retro-tech/ibm-pc-5150 #ibmpc
The PC is 44 years old! I talked to IBM about how the 5150 was made, and had a look inside one too

We talk to IBM about the development of the Personal Computer 5150 in 1981, and dismantle the very first PC to see what makes it tick.

💾 NEW PODCAST!💾 Why is a worm inside a space suit? Who cares! It's funny and it kicks ass and that's all the reason anyone needed in the 90s to have some goofy platformer fun.

Earthworm Jim (Shiny Entertainment, 1994) was initially released for SNES & Genesis/Megadrive, but a year later arrived on PC and ran just as smooth as its console counterparts.

Do quality animations make for a fun game though? That's what we wanted to find out!

I have two banish scrolls on level 23, but I'm in a tricky spot. I'm being chased from behind, but daemons up ahead are waiting to ambush me. #ossuary #ibmpc #msdos #cga
A Medikit is given to any of your team with Medicine skill at level 4 or better. Which basically means Medics. There's an extra medikit somewhere at the mission location, so any non-medic with medicine skill can make use of their skill. #starcadre #ibmpc #msdos #cga
When planning your first attack in The #AnarchicKingdom, you need to know two things: 1. during your turn, you're just giving orders, and the action takes place between turns, and 2. the game is deterministic, the only randomness being in the computer players' actions. Source code for my games is now available on my web site. Just go to any game's web page, and the source code will be available among the downloads as a ZIP. There's a README.md in each one for compilation instructions. http://dos.cyningstan.org.uk/ #gamedev #ibmpc #msdos #cga
And just like that, my GitHub account is gone. Decision hastened by the fact that my password manager decided to delete my password (twice), so I'm also looking for a new password manager, or grabbing a new paper notepad. Today has become Excise Crappy Software day.
I think it's time to look for an alternative to GitHub for my source code distributions. The Personal Access Token feature seems completely unstable, so today I can't even push to one of my repos. Token wasn't expired, but I generated a new one anyway, and another one, and those wouldn't work either. I may end up just sticking the source up as a ZIP on my website and on Itch instead, and save hours of wasted time.
