Sadly we've lost #RalphTowner , one of contemporary acoustic guitar's most original artists. Last I looked he was still making new music and happy to be putting it out there. His and #MichaelHedges voices have long been part of the soundtrack of this life...
Peace be and light to he and his, family, friends, fans. Safe journey to the next great adventure

MICHAEL HEDGES
Ariel Boundaries
1984 U.S. pressing

An incredible album by a phenomenal artist taken from us too soon.

Despite his long relationship with Windham Hill, I would never categorize Hedges as a “new age” artist.
His music was so much more than that.
His playing had so much life and personality; straddling #folk , #country , and flashes of #worldmusic.
Hedges himself used to call his music things like “heavy mental” and “new edge”.

All of his albums are outstanding, but for me, Aerial Boundaries is an outright masterpiece. The title track alone is astounding, and this pressing is an absolute sonic marvel.
I’m surprised this hasn’t been given the MOFI treatment. If there’s any album that begs to have one, it’s this.

Tragically, Hedges died in a car accident at the age of 43.

This post will be worth it if I can just get ONE of you to explore his incredible music.

Musical Interlude: The late Michael Hedges had a pleasant and offbeat style that I enjoy, and all too often got classed as "New Age music" although he was more unclassifiable. He was mostly an instrumental artist, but did some vocals, like this track, an e e cummings poem he set to music.

Been listening to #MichaelHedges all morning. I was introduced to him by my high school best friend's #NeilYoung loving dad. I've been a huge fan since (in the sense that I love all his late instrumental and vocal stuff maybe even more than #AerialBoundaries). I appreciate his technical ability, sure, but more than that I appreciate how it's always subservient to the composition, to what is needed in the piece. He isn't showy just to be showy.

NOTE: Back in the #1980s, when #WindhamHill brought solo acoustic guitar back into public consciousness, Michael Hedges stripped down this #SheilaE song into something eerie and seductive.
