matrix-org / vodozemac - An implementation of #Olm and #Megolm in pure Rust.

貌似许多Matrix客户端都在用老的 #libolm 。libolm 已经被废弃了。

@drazraeltod is that a #megolm?

@laika Technically, encryption in both #XMPP & #Matrix is stapled onto the plaintext protocol (with secure transport to the server, typically).

Most commonly in XMPP with #OMEMO (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OMEMO) and #Olm & #Megolm (https://matrix.org/docs/guides/end-to-end-encryption-implementation-guide) for Matrix. The clients are just better at first-class support & server owners less dickish & anti-privacy.

#NewVector just announced a new round of VC funding that will allow them to improve the #Matrix federated chat ecosystem. Here's a piece about the two protocols Matrix uses for #E2EE (end-to-end encryption), #Olm and #Megolm:

In this post I take a closer look on how matrix.org's crypto protocols olm/megolm compare to the OMEMO protocol.

Since Matrix reset all logins recently, you may lost some of your E2EE keys. Those were erased when being forcefully logged out.

Those who used the Key Backup mechanism by Matrix.org can recover quite easily, those who didn't bother to set them up, might have a problem.

In #e2e:matrix.org we discussed that today and someone provided a detailed guide on how to recover using BTRFS:

First I don't know if that would work for the web end of mastodon? Would it?
Then maybe this would blow client development up a bit. But as I don't know anything about #megolm ... Maybe this can be a proper solution ...

#MegOlm
the beta e2e of Riot

Why could not mastodon clients employ this for non-public toots?
