Ö1 bespricht gänzlich unkritisch das neue Buch von Will MacAskill, der nicht nur EA ist, sondern mittlerweile auch die Radikalisierung zum Longterministen vollzogen hat.

Die neue radikalisierte Generation von EAs empfiehlt übrigens 80% der Spenden für die Bekämpfung von Existential Risk(!) auszugeben + nur 5% gegen den Klimawandel, enough said.

Zwei sehr erfolgreiche Bücher zeichnen ganz unterschiedliche Zukunftsszenarien: In dem einen wachsen Menschheit und Technologie weiter, bis hinaus ins All. Im anderen muss alles schrumpfen. Beide irren sich.

There are very few passages in books that really horrify me. Some of De #Sade's writing does, and certainly I am horrified by what is told about horrific mass murders, tortures, etc. But to be truly horrified by an argument is not my usual way of going about things.

So I was brought to a halt in a review of William #Macaskill' s book, What we owe to cryptocurrency fraudsters, oops, I mean, What we owe to the future.

But all kidding aside, the main criticisms I have of #MacAskill's "What we owe the future" will be in three areas:
(a) his #utilitarianism based #ethics
b) his #growth focused theories of #economy.
c) his theories about #AI and about the "cosmic" #future of humanity.
Together, these points have the potential to establish a murderous #ideology, when the original goal is to ensure the long-term flourishing of humanity. #Philosophy #Longtermism

Let me start with something positive about the book, at least the audiobook edition. Since I first met somebody with a Scottish accent more than 30 years ago, I have loved this accent. For example, watching a game of snooker feels even more enjoyable if the commentator has a Scottish accent. #MacAskill’s accent is not very strong, but it’s enough to be enjoyable for me. So while listening to it during some bike rides last summer, I really enjoyed this aspect of the book. #Longtermism #Philosophy

But I think it is important since the book got a lot of attention and I think it is very problematic, so it cannot be left uncommented. Danny en pente raide

C’est toujours un peu la même chose avec Danny MacAskill. On se dit qu’il aura de la peine à trouver quelque chose de nouveau pour sa prochaine vidéo. Et puis il trouve, parce qu’on n’a jamais fini d’explorer le monde avec un vélo. Et surtout parce qu’il explore à vélo des endroits que nous aurions parfois du mal à explorer à pied.
