I'm not sure how to get my links verified or how to get the checkmarks beside my links in my self-hosted GoToSocial app. In Mastodon, I had verified, but I don't know how to do it in GoToSocial.

If you're wondering why your link does not get verified after adding the rel="me" link on your website, make sure you save your profile to #trigger the #verification process.

At work, we've been experimenting with link validation and there were several more hurdles than I expected. I put together this link debugger tool as a way to show the problems we found that can prevent validation, and as an excuse to start to play around with the Mastodon API. If you are interested in giving it a spin, just enter your username or profile link and it will evaluate the the links in your profile.

Link verification in your profile… this can only be done if you can code in there, right? (And if you have at least a minimum idea on how to code, right?)

Aha! Worked out how to get my profile link to my blog to go green! It turns out that https://bofh.org.uk isn't the same as https://bofh.org.uk/ as far as the link verifier is concerned.

Weird.

An important matter about #linkVerification #security #infosec that came from birdsite: it is subject to #spoofing attacks. Someone could clone your website on a _similar_ URL to the original one and create a fake #verified profile linking to it. I assume this has been considered by @Gargron et al, but is there some write-up on this?
