Up to now Environmental Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) can't be done for construction projects until materials have been chosen, which is too late in the Architecture process to make positive changes. Here I discuss a method of having initial baseline LCAs early in the process.

Is it just me, or does current Lifecycle Analysis miss something important: how long the good actually lasts.

It's all great if Good A consumes 10% fewer resources to produce, use and recycle... But if it lasts half as long, that's a net loss for the planet.

I would love to see analysis more in line with fuel efficiency for cars: The emissions PER YEAR of this product (Aka lifecycle emissions divided by expected lifespan) - so that I as a consumer can make more informed choices, and companies can't game the system by producing shitty short-term products.

Or, another way of thinking about it: what would the emissions be if I used this product for 100 years?

#Gasstoves have become a hot news item recently. During cold winter snaps, one can see and smell the signs of yet another indoor #airquality disaster: #woodburning #fireplaces.

The worst of the worst: a traditional open fireplace, which doesn't just pollute but actually doesn't #heat the home and are waste energy even when there isn't a fire.

It’s not just #GasStoves, (open) wood fireplaces are an energy, climate, and human-health disaster

There has been quite a furor over gas stoves (how they worsen human health along with cooking (far) less efficiently and safely than magnetic induction stove tops) over the past few months. During …
