To finish up, I put some clean pine shavings around the plants to help hold the moisture and another light sprinkling of slow release nitrogen that will help break down the shavings and keep some nitrogen in the soil. Finally, surround the bed with plastic barricade fencing to keep every animal with two or four legs out.

First thing smooth it out, then work some fertilizer and brooder bedding into it, then figure out how to lay it out, and finally plant it.

The plants are salvia farinacea, echinacea purpurea, rudbeckia hirta, Monarda fistulosa (Bergamot bee balm), Agastache foeniculum (Anise Hyssop).
