A tiny amethyst laccaria with an interesting cap. The cap was no more than 2 cm in diameter and had lamellae growing through its center. And of course the obvious damage likely from some snails.

This beauty should be a grown up Amanita (Amanita excelsa).
It is easily confused with the highly toxic panther cup, but that doesn't really matter if you don't plan on taking and eating it, which I didn't.
The second photo is a stack of the beautiful lamellae, they look so neat! 😍

#NorthernShovelers #cooperatively feeding in a foggy #CentralPark #NYC today. They are filter feeders, with strainer-like combs (#lamellae) similar to the #baleen found in some #whales.
