_The Evening Post_, 20 April 1925:
         THE NORTHLAND
                 TUNNEL
“PERSISTENT RUMOURS OF
             INSTABILITY”
                      ——
 MR. R. SEMPLE ASKED TO
               INSPECT.
                      ——
The following resolution was passed at a meeting held under the auspices of the Labour Party at the Empress Theatre last evening:—
In view of the persistent rumours in circulation concerning the alleged instability of the construction work in the new Northland tunnel, and the uneasiness felt by persons who have visited the tunnel concerning possible future risk to human life, this public meeting of Wellington citizens request Mr. Robert Semple, who is an expert tunneller, to report as soon as possible on the condition of the tunnel, particularly in regard to the matter of #safety.
The resolution was this morning refer[r]ed to the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright), who said that he had no comment to make upon it.

_The Evening Post_, 12 March 1925:
RATEPAYERS PROTEST
A SHORTER ROUTE
THE WAY TO KARORI
The chief subject under discussion at a meeting of members of the #Karori Progressive Association last evening was… the urgent need of a shorter route to Karori and the western #suburbs generally.… Councillor J. Aston said that the council was really no further forward in the matter of providing a shorter route to Karori than it was months ago…
Mr. R. B. Sim maintained that the time for politely-worded resolutions had gone past… he had not been very long in the district, but he had been disgusted with the lack of decent facilities for communication with the city.
… Councillor B. G. H. Burn answered in spirited fashion that [the Mayor] Mr. Wright was most certainly not marking time in the matter…. [and] not a foot of [tram] track could be laid anywhere without the approval of the Government.

It was finally decided… by unanimous vote, that a deputation… should wait first upon the Mayor and later upon the Prime Minister, or Acting-Prime Minister, to lay before them the necessity of a shorter route via Bowen street, and to press for a definite statement as to what was intended.…

‘Baby’ is the #FortnightFridayMusic word tonight and from thousands of possibilities I’ve chosen a Jenny Morris song “Little Little” that doesn’t even mention the word. Written during her pregnancy with son Hugh it describes her love for the baby in her womb

Artist: Jenny Morris
Album: Shiver
Released: 1989
Live clip: https://youtu.be/EZ7OCTU9HLU

I first saw Jenny in a Kiwi band the Wide Mouthed Frogs back in 1979 when they first came on the scene (https://audioculture.co.nz/profile/wide-mouthed-frogs). They played at the local Ben Burn Park in Karori and that was the start of my Jenny Morris crush. Last saw her at Hillary’s Perth in the mid 90’s, but unfortunately her voice was affected by spasmodic dysphonia that saw the end to her singing career post 2005
