Being an atheist doesn’t define me, I like to think it means I’m open to ideas

I can’t believe they actually sell this as a bundle.

‘Baby’ is the #FortnightFridayMusic word tonight and from thousands of possibilities I’ve chosen a Jenny Morris song “Little Little” that doesn’t even mention the word. Written during her pregnancy with son Hugh it describes her love for the baby in her womb

Artist: Jenny Morris
Album: Shiver
Released: 1989
Live clip: https://youtu.be/EZ7OCTU9HLU

I first saw Jenny in a Kiwi band the Wide Mouthed Frogs back in 1979 when they first came on the scene (https://audioculture.co.nz/profile/wide-mouthed-frogs). They played at the local Ben Burn Park in Karori and that was the start of my Jenny Morris crush. Last saw her at Hillary’s Perth in the mid 90’s, but unfortunately her voice was affected by spasmodic dysphonia that saw the end to her singing career post 2005

The internet kills me.

A chip that takes minutes to complete tasks that would otherwise take 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (10 septillion) years puts the speed of neurons into perspective, from <1 Hz (1 spike per second) to ~200 Hz (200 spikes per second)

With quantum computation and AI development advancing at such a pace we humans are well and truely in the back seat - ironic that it’s #HumanRightsDay

If you’ve just left Twitter/X welcome! You’ve come to the right place.

There is no algorithm here so we encourage lots of following and “retweeting”. You can also follow #hashtags as well.

Posts are sometimes called toots. Retweets are sometimes called boosts or retoots.

If you want people to follow you, be sure to have a profile picture, something in your description about you, and some engagement: posts, comments, stars, boosts. People also usually do a post that is an introduction to them (be sure to use a hashtag, #introduction) and it can help to pin that to your profile so people can boost it.

One thing we always try to do is add alt text to images for multiple reasons, you can read about that here:

People have added additional tips in the comments below which you may want to check out.

You should also follow @FediTips for more detailed advice.

Many of us (all?) are grieving the US election now so comedy is appreciated.

We call it Earth, but only because we're land dwellers. And we rarely see this picture but it shows how massive the Pacific Ocean is, covering about a third of the Earth's surface.
This is a cloudless satellite image of the Earth, centered on the Pacific Ocean. To get a single cloudless image, NOAA satellites took photos over eleven ten-day periods and merged them.
