Cuando Irpin se llenó de fuego,
la mayoría solo pensaba en huir.
El aire olía a pólvora,
los edificios se caían como si fueran de papel,
cada explosión hacía temblar el pecho.
Era instinto puro: correr, salvarse, no mirar atrás.

Pero Nastya Tikhaya no pudo.
Se quedó paralizada por algo más fuerte que el miedo:
los que no podían escapar.

Había ancianos con los ojos perdidos,
cuerpos frágiles que nadie iba a cargar.
Personas en silla de ruedas,
con el mundo desmoronándose a su alrededor.
Y perros.
Perros que no entendían nada,
que gemían ante cada estallido,
que buscaban a las familias que ya no podían volver a por ellos.

Desde fuera parecía locura:
¿quién vuelve hacia las bombas
cuando todos corren en la otra dirección?

Nastya sí.
Y Arthur, su marido.

Caminaron entre ceniza y vidrio roto,
arrastraron carritos,
cargaron cuerpos pesados,
tiraron de correas que temblaban como hojas.
Había humo, había fuego,
había gente muerta en la carretera.
Y aún así avanzaron.
Una y otra vez.

No rescataron a los fuertes,
no buscaron a los jóvenes que podían correr.
Fueron a por los que nadie quiso.
Los que ya daban por perdidos.

Gracias a ellos, perros sin nombre hoy tienen nombre.
Perros que no podían mover las patas
ahora duermen en camas limpias.
Los viejitos que esperaban morir en una esquina
recibieron caricias, comida, brazos.

Hubo miedo, hubo dolor,
pero también hubo algo que no se escucha en los noticiarios:
la dignidad del amor en mitad de la barbarie.

Mientras la guerra mostraba lo peor del ser humano,
Nastya y Arthur recordaron lo otro:
que siempre hay alguien capaz de quedarse,
aunque le tiemblen las manos.
