One of the very first #Polaroid I've ever taken, from an old I-1 camera. Full manual mode via a phone bluetooth connection was fiddly to use, but the camera could render some amazing scenes under the right conditions.

It was fundamentally flawed on electrical and mechanical level though - lower roller gear section on about half the models would eventually misalign and break. The circuit continuously skimmed from irreplaceable built in battery even when the camera was powered off, eventually killing the cell completely and never turning back on again. Replacing the battery could also sometimes break the lower gear train, rendering the camera inoperable.

Despite the massive flaws though, I loved the camera and what it could do with #blackandwhite #instantfilm #monochrome

#Polaroid I-1 shot from a long, long time ago. Pictured is Bruce, my friend's old dog and quite possibly the most human-like canine I've ever had the pleasure to meet.

I was only shooting I-1 in manual mode back then, and getting any polaroid of Bruce was quite a work. Whenever I was near enough to get a portrait shot of him, he'd try to walk up to cuddle with me. If I was too far, he didn't like having a black box pointed at him so he'd move around.

This was back in late 2019's - Polaroid Co's black and white formula was quite beautiful and had a certain unique silver-screen quality to them.

#PolaroidGo snap of an enormous NYC department of education building from the 1930s, situated right next to the East River. Some people might be familiar with the building as a site of Amazon's proposed 2nd HQ, a plan that was scrapped after widespread public outcry.

It's a giant cavern of a building designed as a multi-use warehouse by the Works Progress Administration of Roosevelt administration, with subtle art deco carvings and flairs hidden throughout. A 'warehouse building' from the era carries a bit of a weight - it's basically synonymous with structurally sound buildings capable of holding significant weight without relying on walls, allowing high-ceiling indoor portions to be re-arranged however you like.

I believe a bunch of talks are still ongoing regarding the future of the building, with real estate developers on one hand and community advocates on the other.

IMHO - maybe it would be worth keeping the building as a mixed use industrial & community space. The whole area is already brimming with ongoing high rise condo projects.

Kunst schaffen bedeutet Platz zum Werden einzuräumen. Je mehr Platz ihr geboten wird, um so vielfältiger wird sie.
Neues beginnt.

Creating art means giving it space to develop. The more space it can occupy, the more diverse it becomes.
Something new begins.

#Polaroid exposure experiment from a long time ago, a friend's flower growing setup with Arduino and moisture sensors. This one was taken with the #I-1, which had (still has?) one of the best optics of all Polaroids I've seen in person.

I loved the camera, but it had some very crippling design flaws. Notably, tiny battery capacity that ran down even when the camera was powered down (meaning the camera was fated to die once the pack lost capacity over time), and weak/delicate gearing that meant even light shocks could permanently prevent the camera from ejecting film properly.

Apparently there's no real solution to the latter even for seasoned polaroid repair people.

The model had a marvelous, very accurate app based manual mode too. I don't think Polaroid was able to replicate the level of functionality until Now+ gen 3 was released recently.
