#PolaroidGo snap of an enormous NYC department of education building from the 1930s, situated right next to the East River. Some people might be familiar with the building as a site of Amazon's proposed 2nd HQ, a plan that was scrapped after widespread public outcry.

It's a giant cavern of a building designed as a multi-use warehouse by the Works Progress Administration of Roosevelt administration, with subtle art deco carvings and flairs hidden throughout. A 'warehouse building' from the era carries a bit of a weight - it's basically synonymous with structurally sound buildings capable of holding significant weight without relying on walls, allowing high-ceiling indoor portions to be re-arranged however you like.

I believe a bunch of talks are still ongoing regarding the future of the building, with real estate developers on one hand and community advocates on the other.

IMHO - maybe it would be worth keeping the building as a mixed use industrial & community space. The whole area is already brimming with ongoing high rise condo projects.

These granary elevators were striking sights all throughout my train journey through the Midwest US, with names of co-ops in peeling, rusted through paints. They stood over townships with shuttered main streets and dwindling populations despite being located right on a major rail path persisting through 2020's.

Each one of them would be worth a small historical study and record. A persistent impression of the US throughout my travels was a country in the middle of losing important memories and sliding into limbo.

#PolaroidGo at the edge of Mohave, on the way to LA via South West Chief #Amtrak line.

The small size of the camera and the negatives/film pack makes the Go a fantastic companion for space-strapped travel scenario (I always try to travel light, everything ideally fitting into a backpack).

I took quite a pile of photos from the travel, really need to get around to uploading them soon.

Autumn. Wow this feels like such a long time ago, with NYC going through the coldest period in 65 years in the last week.

It's difficult to recommend Polaroid over Instax...and yet: https://andrewmelder.com/2026/01/15/its-difficult-to-recommend-polaroid.html

Despite its shortcomings compared to the Instax Mini, the Polaroid Go is my preferred choice for capturing nostalgic moments.

Quick #PolaroidGo snap on the way to work. You could hardly tell it's 6 o'clock on an overcast NYC winter morning.
