Auditory #consciousness teaches #impermanence with great clarity. Every sound appears, changes, fades, & disappears. No sound can be grasped. Humanity does not stand apart from #nature. Humanity is #nature. The #body is not an obstacle to #awakening. The #body is an expression of #reality itself. Every scar, wrinkle, fold, freckle, hair, limb, feature reflects #impermanence. Every breath reveals #interdependence. Every heartbeat echoes countless causes, conditions, relationships extending throughout existence. Nothing exists independently. Nothing stands alone.

As the rains return again, she notes, almost
in passing, how her strait love remains;
how darkness, wind, and sorry days of
work and worry cannot shake it. We are not
built to last; we know that. Some speak of life
as it were stark tragedy alone, a
trudging from diaper to death bed, doomed
because end it must. Others try, by seeking
comedic relief, to put such gloom aside,
assuming that to live brightly today will,
somehow, pay for the pain of barely living
later, when last years have but begun.
Her truth: somewhere between. She would,
if the gods permitted, lose herself in your eyes
every day of forever, but knowing this
will end, and relatively soon, makes her not
over-sad, nor will she lie to you now
with thoughtless laughter; rather it makes her
carefully love you, deeply as she does here,
breathing your name in, breathing it out, like prayer.

The idea of a “soul” is little more than wishful thinking dressed up as wisdom. It is a fantasy clung to by those too frightened to face #impermanence & too terrified to accept death. Rather than confronting #reality as it is, they invent comforting myths of eternal existence. The concept survives not through evidence or reason, but through fear, denial, & an unwillingness to let go of childish illusions.

The notion of a “soul” is a comforting fiction, a story invented to soften the brutal #reality of #impermanence. It is a refuge for those unwilling to face death as it is. Rather than accepting that all things arise, change, & pass away, people cling to fantasies of permanence. The idea persists not because it is true, but because many lack the courage to confront #reality without illusions.
