#Hakko released a refreshed 888d soldering station called 888dx. Who knows - maybe the new interface is better, yet I’ve once set up presets on both my 888d and FR-810B and couldn’t be happier 🙌🏻

Another smd soldering practice kit done. Once again used my hot air station and a soldering iron, soldered with paste, since all of that is exactly what I wanted to practice done ✅

P.S.: man, I just enjoy soldering. Gonna rey to learn BGA reballing at some point next - that's a whole different game, but nothing prevents me from trying 😊

Practice makes perfect 🙌🏻

Got this #smd practice kit from AliExpress. Went surprisingly well, considering it was my first attempt on soldering with a paste and hot air.

Conclusion: I did use a soldering iron to make the joints more accurate because I put too much paste. Why? Because I need to buy narrower dispensing needles for the soldering paste.

Sadly seller did not include the bottom chip 😔

Cats destroyed mom's iPhone charging cable, but luckily I have some spare parts and a soldering iron. Fixed it yesterday as best as I could - works good as new 😀

But best of all - I decided to test whether a #Dremel, a #Hakko888d soldering station and a #HakkoFA400 smoke absorber can all be powered off my #Bluetti EB70 power station or #solargenerator as they are also called these days.

I was quite surprised to find out that a soldering station only take about 70W of power and Dremel takes like 20-40W. While my #MacBookPro14 can take up to 96W...

Makes you think 🤔

Today I was about to throw away an old ASUS laptop power adapter that had a broken power cord. Quite a few years ago my mom gave it to me for #repair. Not willing to be an #ewaste contributor and decided that I can #fix it.

Disassembly of the #disposable #tech is a tad complicated, so I used my #Dremel to cut and then my #victorinox Swiss Tool Spirit's large flathead to break it open. The rest was quite easily done with a #Hakko888d soldering station and a #protechtoolkit from #iFixit.

Successfully done my first ever #repair of an approximately 5 years old #Apple #Lightning to #USB cable.
Just trimmed a part where the isolation went off and soldered a new connector in place 🙌

Was my first experience dealing with such small contact points, so I was a bit nervous connecting it to an iPad, but it turned out pretty well 👍

Now awaiting a set of replacement lightning connectors from AliExpress that have 5 contact pins and support fast charge to fix another Apple cable - USB-C to Lightning this time 🧐
