So the repair part of this #repairProject took about ten seconds to figure out.

Turns out there's a little "projector on/off" button on the back.

I don't operate nor really ever see the unit BTW. It's on the other side of the bed tended by my SO, and I'm kind of just seeing it for the first time since we bought it. It's just always been there and I don't need to think about it.

Looks like the switch failed.

Afternoon #repairProject. Warning - hacking may ensue.

This 15yr old (?) clock radio has suddenly stopped doing the one thing we use it for – projecting the time onto a corner of the bedroom ceiling. It's just out of view, unless you're looking for it.

Of course, once it's gone, you go nuts all night looking for it.

More about the unit…

Successfully done my first ever #repair of an approximately 5 years old #Apple #Lightning to #USB cable.
Just trimmed a part where the isolation went off and soldered a new connector in place πŸ™Œ

Was my first experience dealing with such small contact points, so I was a bit nervous connecting it to an iPad, but it turned out pretty well πŸ‘

Now awaiting a set of replacement lightning connectors from AliExpress that have 5 contact pins and support fast charge to fix another Apple cable - USB-C to Lightning this time 🧐

The #repairproject is going... Poorly. I just contacted a charity which distributes laptops to see if I could donate my machines, and they didn't want any.

The reason is simple: the people who don't have ready access to computers aren't particularly computer literate, and the literacy they do have is Windows-based, so the machines need to be able to run at least Windows 10.

I think I understand, but I don't know enough to disagree. Maybe it's "computer as a multitool" vs. "computer as hammer".

Managed to finish up surgery on the 1001PXD for my #repairproject.

The good: it went without a hitch.
The bad: I expected this, but it doesn't make that much of a difference. Trying to run a modern browser or a Discord client still slams the poor wee thing.

Made a post on my 'family & friends' social media about my #repairproject and people reacted surprisingly negatively to being promised free computers.

I think a big factor is that the netbook seems unusable, even though it's important to keep using it. The reasoning is rough but simple: replacing it would generate a lot of emissions, so I want it to last longer as a productive tool to help offset the emissions that would be generated by its non-existant replacement.
