Messing about with a WS2812B addressable LED strip, and an ESP32 for a small project. The strip was working fine until I cut it down to the size I wanted. I followed the instructions, cutting the strip at the copper pad. No longer worked, and the ESP32 went nuts, no longer accessible.
After faffing around for some time I tried connecting to the 3V pin on the ESP32 instead of the 5V, and hey presto, the shorter strip is now working.
I'm guessing 5V was good for the long strip, but too much for the fewer LEDs?
I'm learning a lot about electronics, but I still feel I'm stumbling around in the dark :-) But in a good way.
