Wisteria is in exuberant bloom and still on the old, falling over trellis. All six sunflowers seem well after transplanting if a bit of yellow in their leaves. Peas and beans are getting ready for strings to climb. The three potato beds are at different stages despite similar conditions but all look good, with wispy onions coming up down the middle. Garlic has recovered after I yoinked the fungus, which so far has not returned. Not pictured, the greenhouse is doing well too, and I finished the March direct sow planting today. Pixelfed is having some issues but the plants keep right on. I hope you had a great weekend wherever you are. #growityourself #garden #gardening #bloomscrolling #horta #jardim #porto
Today in the #greenhouse: strawberries are bouncing back from my neglect. For both the snapdragons and the carnations, I must have dropped some of the tiny seeds outside the grow bags, as well as some potting mix, so I have some volunteers to prick out. #estufa #jardim #porto #gardening #garden #growityourself
Big day for the #raisedBeds. I made #diy bamboo frames and completed planting everything in the shown February plan (h/t growVeg) except for under the archway. I need to rethink that space because I may not have killed all of the chu chu I was given in October, so how does everything fit now? My 18 potatoes are planted--I think the remaining 82 can go to the neighbors with chickens and a rooster. Previously planted, garlic is coming up! Nothing from the previously sown carrots & greens yet. It should be a good Spring.

Making tea from scratch - green (steamed), hojicha (roasted, foreground) - now in the oven - and black (oxidised, will take a few days).

Following https://www.wilsonbrosgardens.com/how-to-make-tea-from-camellia-sinensis-tea-plant.html

I rolled and rolled the black tea leaves upon themselves but they certainly didn’t go red!

It’s an experiment that may or may not work!

I’ve always thought there should be a recipe book called “Glut”
Just full of recipes calling for 1kg of a specific ingredient and sorted by ingredient.
For when you have ridiculous amounts of one ingredient and need recipes to cope.
Like Apple pie for apples.
Something that’s not just jam.
Would need a UK veg & soft fruit edition.

Never run out of fresh herbs again;
Here’s how to propagate them.

It's about time I started to learn to grow my own food. Starting small, and early with some crops that need to sprout in indoor conditions. Hope they'll do well!

Plants have been a comfort amid chaos over the last year. From starting seeds under a grow bulb, to growing berries and vegetables in containers, to overwintering a few indoors to keep them going.... it's been a learning experience. I've enjoyed being in one place enough to tend to them and watch what makes them happy day to day.

These peppers were last summer's breakout success: seeds set aside from a CSA pepper the previous summer suddenly turned into four vigorous plants in a 4L container, and then in an 18L box. It was enough to enjoy 8 or so really nice red-green peppers before it slowed down in autumn.

What plants are you starting indoors this month?
