Wisteria is in exuberant bloom and still on the old, falling over trellis. All six sunflowers seem well after transplanting if a bit of yellow in their leaves. Peas and beans are getting ready for strings to climb. The three potato beds are at different stages despite similar conditions but all look good, with wispy onions coming up down the middle. Garlic has recovered after I yoinked the fungus, which so far has not returned. Not pictured, the greenhouse is doing well too, and I finished the March direct sow planting today. Blistered cup fungi in the raised beds, common in Europe but new to me. They are toxic if eaten raw but do not hurt other plants--except how they crowd them out. I read that yanking them out will release clouds of spoors, but baking soda is effective. And I remind myself that this was always going to be a year of learning: new country, new climate, new beds, new seed companies, new tools, everything. Why not a new fungus too.

Refem l'altar de la Nastia

Passeig Maragall amb Av Verge Montserrat, dilluns, 16 de març, a les 19:30 CET

El 3 de juny del 2024 van assassinar a la Nàstia aquí al barri. El feminicida la va tirar pel balcó al carrer Verge de Montserrat cantonada amb Passeig Maragall. Des de llavors som les veïnes les que hem cuidat l'espai de l'arbre de la cantonada on es va fer un altar improvisat, hem posat plaques i espelmes, però algunes persones volen esborrar la seva memòria.

En aquest moment en què el barri es comença a omplir de guiris per l'hotel de Maragall i que estem a les portes de la gentrificació és més important que mai que sàpiguen que no ens faran fora, que els carrers son nostres i que continuarem recordant i demanant justícia per les nostres mortes.

*Us convoquem a les veïnes el dilluns 16 de març a les 19:30 h a un espai on recordar la Nastia i cuidar l'espai de l'arbre. Us animem a portar plantes, flors, espelmes,etc 🌱🌻🕯*
Per últim també us recordem que aquest espai l'hem de cuidar nosaltres més enllà d'aquest dia i us animem a netejar-lo i sobretot no permetre que d'altres el destrossin. Per la Nastia!

The bird of paradise blooms nearly year long, and I stood on tiptoe to get an overhead shot. Sunflower seeds are ready to be planted as soon as I feel they're hardened off; this is the step I reliably fumble. But they are too tall to keep in the greenhouse. The sixth replacement seed has sprouted; no doubt it will catch up. These will be tall fellahs. The garlic is doing wonderfully! I've never grown it before. I gave it a month in the fridge before popping it into the beds, and I have a 3.2 meter stretch of garlic across three beds. Vampires beware! Good to see lettuce and rocket make an appearance. Still unsure about the archways so today I planted spinach while I wait. Worst case I harvest it small. I also put a few lavender seeds into the herb bed; late but we'll see. Speaking of late, let's hope I didn't kill too many strawberries. I finally potted them up today. This is why I shouldn't impulse buy living things without knowing where they will go... I spritzed bare roots with water and left them in a dark garage, but everything is always wet in Porto. Poor little guys started to rot. But strawberries are fierce. I doubt I will lose many.
