Went to the (new) allotment. It was super muddy. Digging over a set of smaller raised beds was much easier than a whole plot though.

The onions we planted earlier are growing properly, and I dumped three bags of manure on the potato box.

Big day for the #raisedBeds. I made #diy bamboo frames and completed planting everything in the shown February plan (h/t growVeg) except for under the archway. I need to rethink that space because I may not have killed all of the chu chu I was given in October, so how does everything fit now? My 18 potatoes are planted--I think the remaining 82 can go to the neighbors with chickens and a rooster. Previously planted, garlic is coming up! Nothing from the previously sown carrots & greens yet. It should be a good Spring.

Black krim tomatoes planted 27 January (3 weeks ago) in the greenhouse. The yellow cherry tomatoes just came up. No proof of life from the hot peppers yet, but someone has to take the bronze.
Today I've direct sown garlic, lettuce, rocket, and carrots in the raised beds. It's not terribly photogenic at this stage, but I am thrilled to get some pauses in the rain. Let's get this garden party started #gardening #greenhouse #raisedbeds

Compost turning day! The bins are stacked pallet collars, .8 m x 1.2 m (about 2.5' x 4' in freedom units 😉) The first one I filled with fallen fruit and yard clippings, and it is now drastically reduced in size and smells like compost. I should give it more time and material, but a good start. The middle was grass clippings, which I expected to let dry and use as mulch. Nope. Nothing is dry this winter. Once I peeled back the top layer, it's a bit of muck. It's breaking down more than planned but needs more air to do it well. I will absolutely put it to use! One board has already popped right off the purchased lids. DIY tetanus anyone? I do not have a replacement plan yet. #Garden plans made, going into my raised beds: potatoes, parsnips, beetroot, celeriac, sweetcorn, tomatoes and Brussel sprouts. I was going to try courgettes in some pots due to space.

Also thinking of doing a #hydroponic experiment again this year, last year I tried #aeroponics but might try a hydroponic wall with lettuce etc.

Pulled the plants out and got the last of the 6 raised beds assembled and in place today, and filled it (and the others) with a mix of branches, sticks, cardboard, paper, leaves, etc. They’re not perfectly level but they’re close enough! I’ll need to add somewhere between 5-10T of soil in the spring (calculations & hernia pending), but we’re looking good!

Took me all day and I ran out of sunlight, but I got the 5th bed in. Holy hell that was a LOT more work than I expected.

And I’ve got maybe 1T of gravel left to move. RIP my back.

Well I got 3 of the 4 garden beds trenched today before my BG fucked me for the last time pre-sunset. I guess I’ll have to do the other (arguably hardest) one another day 🙄

Gotta order 2T of gravel for the bed bases & driveway too. My body is going to hate me. I had better buy all of the sugar at the supermarket this weekend.
