A palm-like tree keeps growing taller than the greenhouse so I cut the top today. Maybe it will root in water. If so, I'll give it to a friend. To my surprise the pear tree is both still blooming and already setting rather a lot of fruit. I finally had serious time in the garden on Sunday. What is going on with the nasturtium? On Saturday a generous friend gave me some plants: strawberries, mint, tomatillo, pomegranate, avocado. Greenhouse: another double bloom forming on a bird of paradise, a small contribution to dinner (rocket, chard, spinach, peapods, a carrot with big shoulders fooled me into pulling it too early) and some sort of mildew has the pea plants. In the greenhouse bed, the romanesco cauliflower bolted so I hacked it to the ground, leaving the roots to avoid disturbing the carrots that might come out next week or so. A kilo of strawberries makes a fine start on brunch. If I could figure out how to close the greenhouse windows without everything getting nasty, I could grow my own this early. Projects for the future. For now, at long last there's proof of life from the carrot seeds. Hello there!
