I bound off stitch 28,290 of the yet-to-be-given knitted gift. I did divulge that it’s a scarf because people have strong preferences in length. (We’re both partial to long, dramatic scarves. 😋) This wasn’t a game of yarn chicken, but 9 yards left of three balls is pretty good.

Knitting Adventures: Embrace Winter Neck Warmer by DROPS design

Finally, the knitting bug has infected me again. I´m not kidding, the whole summer i hardly had the motivation to knit anything. At the end of August and mid-September i made some scrap socks without a heel, but nothing more.
Since the end of September, i finally have so many ideas again. It probably changed because – yes i´m sorry – Christmas is coming soon (and i also had a family birthday at the end of October), and i needed to start knitting christmas presents!

But first the birthday present.

I chose a simple and easy project, to get back into the groove again. The Neck Warmer from Drops (it is free on Ravelry – Link here, and on their website – Link here) is perfect for that, to make it even easier and faster, i decided to not knit the main pattern. Only Stockinette on the front and back panel. I did the little slip stitch design on the shoulders though.

The Pattern needs about 345 – 440 yards (315 – 402 m) of DK weight yarn. I knitted the size large and had only one ball of white yarn (which was Schachenmayr Soft & Easy Originals in White – 1 Skein is 100 g and 235.0 meters (257.0 yards)). Which in retrospect, was a stupid idea, but i don´t have that many DK weight yarns at the moment. I thought with some changes to the pattern and the opportunity to maybe get some other white yarn at my local store i started the project with it.

So i decided to knit the Neck ribbing narrower than the pattern wrote, to save some of my yarn. I knitted 6cm instead of 8 cm. I still used Needle sizes 4 mm circular and 3,5 mm circular (for the ribbing) as given in the pattern, because i didn´t like the fabric larger needles would give me.

I ran out of my yarn before the last ribbing, which is the front ribbing ( but you can wear it however you want) on a – i think – saturday evening or sunday. I had plenty of time to finish the birthday present, so theoretically i could have waited till my local yarn shop opened to buy some new yarn, but apparently i was in a hurry.

I think, i wanted to start a new project asap. So, i rummaged thorugh my leftover yarn and found some white DK. While knitting under artificial light it even looked like the same shade of white. But the next morning you could see it was slightly – very very slightly – darker. It is only really noticeable, if you look very close and most of the time it is under a jacket or coat, so i left it that way.

You thought i would show you the side with the darker ribbing…ha!

I „blocked“ (i steamed it a bit, because the yarn is 100% acrylic) it after finishing, because it had some weird ripples in the shoulder area (which you can see in the picture). It got nice and even afterwards. The yarn is really one of my favourite yarns from Schachenmayr, and i hope they will continue to make it, although the have/had a few problems at the moment. It is soft and very comfortabel to knit with.

Thank you for reading, till next week with some more upcycling!

A quick in between knit - fingerless gloves.

My daughter asked for some and this was a leftover I had around (we were on a family visit so limited supply). The pattern is "pioneer gloves", size L. Cuff length in between short and long version. I made them for myself two years ago and really, really love them - easy to knit and very comfortable to wear.

#yarnuary - who do you give the most of your creations to?

It's probably half and half my partner and myself.

Yes, I'm mostly a selfish crafter. A (somewhat distant) third is my daughter, but with her there are times when I make quite a lot and then there might be two years, when I don't make anything at all.

Somewhat recently she got 4 pairs of socks.

This little giftknit baby blanket has been on the blocking board for a couple of weeks. Life happens.
Blocking the blanket definitely helped with all the lumpiness, though now my actual mistakes stick out to me like a sore thumb. Still, I can't wait to gift it now that it's officially finished.

Pattern is 'Bounce' by Tin Can Knits.

Next project - a sweater for my daughter. Now a picture in daylight with accurate colors.

The pattern is Just Dream https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/just-dream and I'm using quite large needles compared to my usual projects - 4.0 mm. Upside: much faster progess. Downside: awkward knitting (for me).

It's Finkhof yarn https://finkhof.de/wolle/wollgarne/strickwolle-duenn/-Southgerman merino. Much less soft than usual merino, but a local wool.

I only found this, when it was already getting close to 10 pm on my list of the world.

Started a new project today, so quite a bit of swatching and trying out needle sizes and not much to show for it.

But I'm halfway through the lower hen of the back piece.

It's for my daughter, with dark blue as background and burgundy stripes.

I finished my FIL's socks, but I had to knit them shorter than I wanted to so I can post them in time. I now have two gifts left to finish then I can cast on my gift to myself: a Christmas sweater!
