I’ve stress knit a dozen ribbed caps this year, settling into shaping and decreases that work for me. Knitters have asked for my tweaks, but they amount to an entire pattern.

So, my idea is this. Publish the hat as my Furrow Cap for some price with notes about using leftover yarn, but make it free with the purchase of any of my other patterns.

Here is the sample I’m knitting for design specifications, instructions, etc. Back to work I go.

Swatchy swatchy.

For a new pair of slipper socks. I've always knit them in acrylic to use yarn I don't otherwise knit, but they wear in ways that my wool socks never do. I hope that a pair made of wool will last longer.

Spring Knitting: Short socks

Time for toes! I'm glad this first pair of the year will be finished soon. I have two more 50-gram balls of the DK cotton yarn, but I think I'll use them for wash/dish cloths.

Yarn: Scheepjes Granada Colori, colorway 7481

Knitters adapt.
I weighed, I measured, I ran out of yarn.
I ripped back to knit a band that would be hidden and leave ample yarn for the rest of the cap.
I like the dark, steely blue band, though, so I'll knit enough to show beyond the brim.
Onward.

Spring knittng, a week later.

3.5 in of "plain" ribbed cap ribbing so far. The colors remind me of eggplant - their skin, flesh, and stems.

The second ribbed cap is about 6 in long. I like the k3p2 side of helical knitting much more than the k2p3 side that would show when folded, so I turned it inside out. The rest of the cap will be solid blue.

The short sock is has passed its neat gusset to a little more than halfway along the length of the foot.

Spring knittng. Two more ribbed caps on my DPNs. Something to knit when the mood strikes.
Short socks always come in handy. I finished the heel flap and turned the heel of this one, seen here from both right and wrong sides. It's DK weight cotton, so the socks will be particularly sturdy.

The first ribbed cap that I knit from a dark gradient dyed blank reached its new owner this weekend.

"It feels so nice. I'm excited to wear it. And I like the colors even more in person."

Appreciation makes gift knitting worthwhile. I don't think I could've chosen better colors for him if I tried!

Four stitches to go. Again.

Nearly finished with the second ribbed cap from a gradient dyed blank, featuring helical knitting beyond the lengths for brims.

1) I knit the last 4 stitches of the ribbed cap. I like it so well that a small part of me wished I hadn't knit it for someone else.
2) I rarely block hats, but this one needs it. Pizza boxes are my favorite material for making blocking tubes.
3) The drying hat's ribbing already looks much tidier.
4) I have enough yarn from the blank for a second, identical ribbed cap. I'm already 5 inches in. Three more to go before crown decreases.
