Looking the US laws are forcing a trend in operative systems in general that are invasive, I wonder if it will became another point of contender between EU/US about computing in general.
In this field, at least EU was able to strike hard to US enough to annoy them, a lot.
And in these years we are see a lot of point of friction boiling under the surface (uuhm Greenland?).
More than privacy, are excuses to excise some soft power, but still...

California Age Law, as EU citizen, I lie outside this issue, but there is a big "what" that concern EU in general: being the Californian requirement system invasive that can fall into legalized spyware, I wonder if this goes to clash with EU law in terms of privacy and data protections that have a lot of impact on the tech field.
What if FOSS devs are so much focused to please California that EU goes to smack their head later?

Quite a few people are singling out this one person, and #systemd.

Just remember that within a mere 11 hours of my predicting all of this, from the #GDPR conflicts to the whistling up a storm, and a few days before the systemd PR was opened, a completely different person had come up with a concrete proposal, for #Unix and Unix-like operating systems in general, for this sort of #AgeVerification support.

Predictions and the original post of the proposal, later re-posted as a top-level message by that person, in the thread.

🗞️☕ Are you looking for an interesting weekend read? noyb recently conducted a survey among privacy professionals to find out what kind of #GDPR simplification #European companies actually need.

🔍 One of the key findings was that most professionals don’t actually want protections to be cut back, but for documentation duties and #paperwork to be reduced. In many cases, they even ask for clearer laws instead of more ‘flexibility’.

Reform UK's 'competition' clearly breaches the law.

"The ICO have a statutory duty to monitor and ensure compliance with UK data protection law. Instead of doing their job, the ICO are telling to the public to “go figure it out themselves.

The ICO refusal to fulfill their duty and carry out much needed oversight marks yet another institutional failure, which risks affecting the May elections.”
