US Authorities Escalate Tesla FSD Probe - Suspected Defects in Limited Visibility Conditions

Tesla's FSD system is facing a growing list of investigations.

NHTSA has escalated its latest investigation to an Engineering Analysis covering an estimated 3,203,754 vehicles β€” the step that typically precedes a recall. There are now three concurrent NHTSA investigations into FSD, covering visibility failures, traffic violations, and crash reporting gaps.

FSD has engaged in what the agency calls "driving maneuvers that constitute traffic safety violations." The CORE PROBLEM = FSD can’t tell when it’s BLIND!

NHTSA states that in the crashes it reviewed, the system β€œdid not detect common roadway conditions that impaired camera visibility and/or provide alerts when camera performance had deteriorated until immediately before the crash occurred.”

The conditions involved are not exotic edge cases and include sun glare, fog, and airborne dust β€” things any driver encounters regularly. https://electrek.co/2026/03/19/nhtsa-upgrades-tesla-fsd-visibility-investigation-3-2-million-vehicles/ #Tesla #FSD #AutonomousDriving #NHTSA #Recall #FullSelfDriving #Safety #HighwaySafety #Car_Crashes

@karaswisher

The Xitter post allegedly by #musk appears to be fake.

But I wouldn't put this type of behavior past him or #Tesla , a company that already deactivates #fullselfdriving when an accident is detected so they can say it wasn't on.

@InternationalCyberDigest I'm glad this bs is not legal in #Germany.

@SuffolkLITLab If a tree falls in the forest, and tells a litigant whether they have a case that would survive a motion for summary judgment, and no one else hears it, has it actually practiced law?
Closer than we might think to those questions about whether any human, company, remote operator, or algorithm maker actually is liable for avoidable damage caused by a fully automated self driving vehicle. #fullselfdriving #UPL #FSD

LOL $99 per MONTH if you want "Lane keeping"

I've used this feature on a couple (non Tesla) rentals and it's nice. So of course they remove it and make it a subscription.

This why we can't have 'nice' things.
